Seldovia’s Airport Webcam – Back on Line – Thanks to Kris!
Thanks to Kris Lethin – our web cam technical support guy/computer guru – our Webcam for the Seldovia Airport is back on line! The problem was a heavy snow load that fell off the roof and severed the line and pulled apart connections – so Kris had to troubleshoot , splice and replace the line! Thanks again Kris, I really appreciate you! So do all the folks/pilots who check out the condition of the Seldovia airport before flying over! Thanks too, to George – who keeps our airport in great condition. We have an awesome reputation for a very well maintained and safe airstrip! Run way is clear – come on over to Seldovia!!

Check Out Seldovia’s Webcams!
by Jenny Chissus
Take a minute to check out our Seldovia Winter Wonderland – on Seldovia.com’s webcam page! Below I’ve posted screen shots from the small boat harbor and the airport today, Friday, February 3, 2012!
Click here, or on above link to go right to the main page of Seldovia.com where you can access all 5 Seldovia webcams.
These cameras are updating every 20-30 seconds, and are a great way to check in “live” with Seldovia! There are also cameras at the city dock for AMHS arrivals/departures, another harbor cam and a lookout over Kachemak Bay!
Thank you to the sponsors of these cameras: Sea Parrot Inn, Bridgekeeper’s Inn, Joe Fleckenstein, Ester In-Hout, City of Seldovia, Herring Bay Mercantile, Alaska Dancing Eagles, AeroTech Inc. and Seldovia.com. Also – a BIG thank you goes out to Tom Glover who set up the cameras, and recently assisted with repairs to the harbor cam – and Kris Lethin – who is assisting with technical support with the cameras – as that is outside my area of expertise!
Thanks Tom and Kris, we so appreciate that
all the Seldovia cameras are up and running!!

Thank You, We’re Dazzled!
by Savannah Lewis – Library Director
A thank-you note to the library’s anonymous benefactor(s)
We are speechless with surprise and gratitude to have been the recipient over the past month of 83 new books. They were purchased from our Amazon wishlist and so represent books we were especially anxious to obtain for our collection.
Dear donor(s), even though you remain anonymous, please know that the board and library volunteers join me in thanking you for your generosity on behalf of our patrons who will receive so much pleasure from these books. We operate on a very small annual budget, and gifts such as these greatly expand our ability to offer new and enticing titles.
So, thank you. We’re dazzled.

Tamara Rose Blodgett – Local Author – Big Success!
by Jenny Chissus
How exciting is it that we have another local author making great strides in the literary world! Tamara Rose Blodgett has been writing since 2007, pursuing her creative genius. Tamara is currently on her 6th book, and is working simultaneously on three completely different series! I had the opportunity to sit down with her at lunch today at the Tidepool (sorry about all the background noise – but it was a busy happy place!) to discuss her writing, her process and her successes.
Tamara has recently made it into the top of certain categories, and is thrilled to know that her readers are enjoying each book, referring them to friends, and impatient for the sequels! Her success has come as a bit of a surprise, as each story is so personal, and such an intimate creation – she just wasn’t sure if they would resonate with her readers. A serious confirmation that her stories are being read and enjoyed is that Death Whispers is in the TOP 100 for Children’s Science Fiction! Death Speaks is in the TOP 100 for Children’s Mysteries, Espionage and Detectives & Genre Fiction; Occult, and The Savage Blood is in the TOP 100 for Romance; Time Travel, Historical Fantasy, Historical Science Fiction & Fantasy!
Death Screams, book III in the Death series is due for release on Friday the 13th of January – so keep a look out.
Do take a look at Tamara’s blog – to see summaries, reviews and more.
It is important to note that there have been quite a few authors coming out of our little community. The following three authors share their love of the Alaskan lifestyle and adventures. Check them out!
For example: Dennis Lattery’s Hunts and Home Fires and his wife Sharon Lattery’s Cold Climate Clips and Erin McKittrick’s A Long Trek Home to name a few! We have enjoyed book signings and presentations here locally by these talented authors – and it is a real treat to see them succeed! There must be something in the Seldovia water! Happy Reading!

Seldovia’s Last Day of 2011
photos by Jenny Chissus

I hope you’ll enjoy my walk about town today – especially through our small boat harbor, which is covered in snow, and ice! It is a cold, cold day at 5 degrees – unusually cold for Seldovia! We were blessed with beautiful sun for the short day – and looking forward to fireworks tonight! See you all there!

Editor’s Favorites: “Miniatur Wunderland”
This is amazing! Thanks Mike for sharing this with me!
Growing up, we used to have a train village that my father and older brother Peter built, with mountains out of paper mache and chicken wire, tiny people, houses, stores, train depots, streets with lanterns that lit up at night! (in the day too – it was so much fun) However, it was nothing like this – this has to go on the 100 Things to Do/See Before I Die list!
