John Mickelson passed from this earth on July 30, 2012.

John touched many lives and had many adventures for his 56 years.

He will be missed by family and friends.

A  celebration of his life will be in Washington on August 15, 2012 and at a later date in Seldovia.

Shannon Marie Haller Bouchard – January 2, 1966 – July 23, 2012

Shannon passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Matsu ICU, in Wasilla, Alaska July 23, 2012 surrounded by her family.

Shannon was born in Anchorage, but was raised and went to school in Seldovia.  She became an EMT here and worked as a responder until she went in to the Air Force.  On her trips back home she always took her turn at being dispatcher.

She is survived by husband James Paul Bouchard of Wasilla;  daughter Nichole Bouchard of Seldovia; son Michael Bouchard of Wasilla;  sister Stephanie Haller of Butte; also brothers Scott Haller and Shad Haller of Seldovia; sister Paula Elvsaas of Seldovia and Bear Elvsaas of Wasilla;  dad Fredrick Elvsaas of Anchorage;  father Ike Haller of Washington and mother Sandee Elvsaas of Seldovia; uncle Thor Burt of Seldovia; aunt Sharon Burt of Fairbanks and uncle Michael Burt of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews….and many friends.

A celebration of her life and spirit will be held here in Seldovia at the Library/ Multi purpose Room on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 2pm.

Shannon requested that her ashes be placed in her mother’s  gardens here in Seldovia, so in lieu of flowers please bring a perennial plant from your garden to be planted in her memory.

Engaged! Matthew Gain and Natalie Grimes

 Funny how news travels these days…

My son came downstairs Sunday night – fairly late to announce to the family that Seldovian’s very own Matthew Gain just proposed to Natalie Grimes! Matthew was raised in Seldovia, and he is the son of Ronene and Keith Gain.  (Keith is Seldovia’s Mayor)  So how did my son find out this exciting news?  A “text”!

I happened to run into a very smiley and cheerful Natalie on the street Monday, chatting with a few other local gals – I’m certain the topic was the same… I’m Engaged!

I made a u-turn and pulled over to congratulate the bride-to-be, and she smiled, ear-to-ear and with a grand “Thank you!” as I noticed the beautiful ring on her left hand.  Ah, young love!   With a twinkle in her eye – she glowed when she said to me “I just can’t stop smiling, my smile muscles are sore!”

Alexandria Seversen Roehl Paisley – August 10, 1922 – June 18, 2012

Alexandria Seversen Roehl Paisley, 89, passed away on June 18, 2012 at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Alexandria was born on August 10, 1922, in Nondalton, Alaska.  She lived in Iliamna, Homer, retired to Seldovia and lived in Anchorage since 1999.

Alexandria received an Associates Degree in Office Occupations. Alexandria worked for the Seversen Roadhouse, commercial fished in Cook Inlet, Peterson Point Cannery and the Alaska Native Health Services (ANS).   She retired from ANS in the early eighties.
